After three months of lockdown, Milano Malpensa airport has opened Terminal 1 again. From 15th June, Terminal 2 closed and Terminal 1 is operative again.
Terminal 1 was closed at the beginning of March because of air traffic collapse due to coronavirus. All flights were moved to the smallest Terminal 2.
From 15th June, also Easyjet started to fly from Terminal 1. In the next few days, the programming for July and August will also be consolidated, progressively increasing the routes.
On the other hand, the operative restart of airport Linate is still an unknown factor. Current traffic volumes and the expected social distancing do not allow the reopening of this airport, which has tighter spaces than Malpensa Terminal 1. For this reason, Alitalia is increasing its air traffic in Malpensa Terminal 1.
From 1st to 9th June, 30.500 passengers passed in Malpensa Terminal 2, an average of 3.052 per day. There were more travellers arriving than departing. Last June passengers were more than 80.000.
Experts expect a doubling of daily travellers thanks to reopening of Malpensa Terminal 1.
