Hybrid-electric airplane made history. The twin-prop plane was the first electrified airplane to complete a test flight on a commercial airline route, flying from Kahului to Hana (Hawaii) and back.
It was a 20 minutes flight each way, in total 40 minutes all done on a single charge. It’s the first time.
An innovation aviation company developed the project of a plane that can fly with an electrical system and combustion engine. The hybrid-electrical airplane is called Electic EEL.
The project was tested in California and then the hybrid-electrical airplane went to Hawaii.
The test flights on Maui run through December and they are being done under the FAA’s Experimental-Market Survey. The hybrid-electrical airplane flew with crew and essential personnel.
This airplane is the first in the sky with this technology. Hybrid-electric airplane are perfectly suited for short distance flights.
The goal is to have hybrid-electric airplanes ready for the commercial market by the end of 2023.
