T1 at Fiumicino is expanded
Added on Wed May 10th, 2023
The opening of the new boarding area of Fiumicino Terminal 1 has just taken place: 25,000 square metres, 22 gates, and the capacity to receive 6 million passengers every year.
The structure is clearly state-of-the-art and the investment of around 500 million euros, which also includes the opening of the former boarding area C and the former D pier, is in accordance with the investments made by ADR: focus on quality, sustainability and innovation.
In the new boarding area there are 12 new loading bridges for direct boarding of aircraft, 44 self boarding gates, as well as digital columns integrated into the structures. In addition, a new baggage handling system has been installed in the arrivals area, with 3 new conveyor belts for an additional capacity of 3 million passengers per year.
The project was realised according to the most modern environmental protocols, without excavating or increasing the volume of the pre-existing infrastructure and with reuse of existing material. The overall layout of the area has been optimised providing more space for the gates, improved technology and space for new commercial areas.
The inauguration was attended by the highest state dignitaries and a statement by Marco Troncone (ADR’s CEO) emphasising the airport’s ambition to represent an airport also to foreign countries, where innovation, sustainability and quality prevail.
Last but not least, the precious touch given by Bernini’s masterpiece, the Salvator Mundi, to enhance the historical and artistic heritage of Italy, which has always been the country of art and beauty.
This upgrading, says Troncone, will ensure that the airport will be able to face with serenity all the upcoming major international events, first and foremost the Jubilee 2025.
